What is Flexographic Printing?

Flexographic printing is a type of rotary printing that uses flexible photopolymer plates attached to cylinders. These plates are created in a separate process before the actual printing begins, and each colour to be printed requires its own plate.

As the material to be printed, or substrate, moves through the press, it encounters each mounted plate on its respective cylinder. The ink from specialised wells is transferred to these plates and then directly applied to the substrate. This method, featuring flexible plates, enables high-speed printing on a diverse range of materials.

In flexographic printing, the use of CMYK inks allows for precise and consistent color reproduction, making it ideal for printing detailed images, complex designs, and full-color graphics. This method ensures that the final product meets the highest standards of clarity and vibrancy, essential for catching the consumer's eye and enhancing brand visibility.

Advantages of Flexographic Label Printing

Flexo printing is celebrated for its versatility, combining speed, quality, and cost-effective printing options. Additionally, it offers several other benefits including:

Varied Sizing Options
Our flexographic label presses have the capability to print labels up to 14 inches wide, accommodating large format labels. Furthermore, we can enhance efficiency by printing multiple streams of labels side-by-side simultaneously.

Substrate Choices

A flexographic label press's ability to apply ink directly to the substrate enables the use of a remarkably broad range of substrate materials. This includes everything from metallic films and foil to acetate and paper, all of which can be printed using a flexographic press.

Versatile Inks
Flexo presses are compatible with a diverse array of inks, such as water-based, fluorescent, metallic, and UV-curable inks.

Inline Finishing
Finishing options including topcoats & laminating, turret rewinders, sheeters, and fanfolders can be added to finishing stations at the end of flexographic presses. This allows for continuous production and time savings.

Gloss Paper Standard

Semi gloss is general labelling from food through to beverages. An over varnish is normally applied (gloss, matt or satin varnish). Paper is not water resistant → an over-laminate can be applied to protect material from moisture. Alternatively, opt for a polyprop label which is waterproof.

Gloss Paper Standard - High Gloss

High gloss (High Grade Semi Gloss) with a high gloss top sheet is high quality food and beverage labels. Also used for pharmaceutical labels. An over varnish is normally applied (gloss or matt varnish). Paper is not water resistant → an over-laminate can be applied to protect material from moisture. Alternatively, opt for a polyprop label which is waterproof.

Gloss Paper Wine - Cast Gloss

Has a top sheet of cast gloss (clay-coated) and is used predominantly on wine labels. Label will withstand ice bucket test and not disintegrate. The material is not waterproof.

Films - Clear - Gloss Clear Polypropylene

Used mainly for beverages → water proof and no label look.
